About starter kit

A starter kit is a bundle rather than a category of device: the manufacturer packages a device with the coils it takes and the cable it charges from, which removes the guesswork of assembling compatible parts separately. It is usually cheaper than buying the same items individually, and it guarantees the coils in the box actually fit.

The choice that shapes everything else is draw style. Mouth-to-lung draws vapour into the mouth before inhaling, through a tight airflow, and closely resembles the action of smoking a cigarette; it uses higher-resistance coils and lower power. Direct-to-lung inhales straight into the lungs through a much wider airflow, uses sub-ohm coils and more power, and produces far more vapour. Many current kits are adjustable and will do both, which is the safer choice if you are unsure which you prefer.

Almost every kit excludes e-liquid, since strength and flavour are personal. Check the coil resistance supplied with the kit and buy liquid to match: 50/50 for the higher-resistance MTL coils, higher-VG for sub-ohm coils.

How to choose

Decide on the draw first
MTL for a tight, cigarette-like draw. DTL for large vapour and an open draw. An adjustable kit covers both if you are not sure.
Check what is actually included
Most kits include the device, one or two coils and a USB cable. E-liquid is almost never included, and a spare battery rarely is.
Battery capacity
Under 1,000 mAh will likely need charging within a day. Sub-ohm kits draw more power and benefit from 2,000 mAh or above, or a removable cell.
Confirm coils are stocked
A kit is only as good as its ongoing coil supply. Check replacements are readily available before committing.

Frequently asked questions

What comes in a vape starter kit?

Typically the device itself, its tank or pod, one or two coils, and a USB charging cable. Some include a spare glass or a lanyard. The individual product listing sets out exactly what is in each box.

Do I need to buy e-liquid separately?

Nearly always, yes. Kits ship without liquid because strength and flavour are personal choices. Match the VG/PG ratio to the coils supplied — 50/50 for MTL coils above roughly 1.0 ohm, higher-VG for sub-ohm coils.

Which kit suits someone starting out?

Most people beginning with vaping prefer a mouth-to-lung kit, because the tighter draw is closer to the sensation of a cigarette and the devices are simpler, with fewer settings and better battery life. Direct-lung kits are larger, more powerful and consume liquid considerably faster.

What is the difference between MTL and DTL?

MTL means drawing vapour into the mouth first and then inhaling, through tight airflow with a high-resistance coil. DTL means inhaling straight into the lungs through wide airflow with a sub-ohm coil and more power, producing much more vapour and using far more liquid.

How long does the battery last?

It depends on capacity and how hard the coil is driven. A 1,500 mAh MTL device typically lasts a day of moderate use; a sub-ohm kit at 60W will consume the same capacity far quicker. Kits taking removable cells can be kept running by swapping in a charged spare.
